Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

planes.fun (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates a flight on-time prediction game at planes.fun. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the service, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using planes.fun you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.
  • Gameplay data. The calls you make, the tokens you spend, your Miles, ranks, and leaderboard history. Your callsign, crew look, rank, Miles, called-right record, board position, medals and the month you joined appear on your public crew card at planes.fun/crew/<callsign>, and your callsign, rank, Miles and call counts on the leaderboards; your calls, display name and token balance are never shown to other players.
  • Purchase information. Token packs are sold in the planes.fun app, and payment is processed by Google Play. We receive confirmation of your purchase — the store's order id and the pack you bought — but we never see or store your card number or payment details, and we do not receive the amount you were charged.
  • Technical data. Standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps — collected automatically to operate and secure the service.
  • Usage data. Through Google Analytics: the pages you visit and how you use the map and flight panels, your device and browser, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), the Google Analytics cookie identifier, and — if you are signed in — an opaque identifier we assign to your account, never your name or email address.
  • Advertising data. When an ad is shown, Google receives your device's advertising identifier (in the app) or reads its own advertising cookies (on the site), your IP address — from which it infers your approximate location — and how you interact with the ad, such as whether a rewarded ad ran to its end. See Section 5.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and maintain your account and sign you in.
  • Run the game — record calls, settle markets, award Miles, and rank leaderboards.
  • Process token purchases and deliver what you bought.
  • Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service, and prevent fraud and abuse.
  • Communicate with you about your account or important changes to the service.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We show ads from Google; under some US state laws that counts as “sharing” personal information for advertising, and Section 5 says what Google receives and how to opt out.

4. Cookies

We use cookies for two purposes. The first is keeping you signed in: essential, first-party session cookies — without them the game cannot know who you are. The second is analytics: Google Analytics sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<id>, which last up to two years and are used only to measure how the site is used. Google's ads set Google's own advertising cookies when an ad is shown on the site — in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland only with your consent (Section 5).

In Quebec and outside the United States and Canada, analytics cookies are off by default, and Google Analytics receives only basic measurements without them. You can opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with Google's opt-out browser add-on. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings, but you will not be able to stay signed in.

5. Ads

planes.fun shows ads from Google: on the site through Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager, and in the Android app through Google AdMob. One ad sits in the flight panel and one under your results; nothing covers the map, and no ad takes over the screen unless you chose to watch one.

Rewarded ads. You can choose to watch an ad to its end to unlock a feature for a set time, or, in the app, to receive tokens. In the app, we pass Google an opaque identifier for your account with the ad so the reward reaches the right account — never your name, email address or callsign. A reward has no cash value, cannot be transferred, sold or exchanged, and exists only inside planes.fun.

What Google receives is listed in Section 2 (Advertising data) and is used as described in how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

The EEA, the UK and Switzerland. We ask for your consent through Google's consent tool before any personalised ad, and you can change or withdraw it at any time under Ad preferences below. If you decline, ads are not personalised, and rewarded ads still work.

US states. If you live in a state with a privacy law (California among them), you can opt out of the sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising under Ad preferences below. In the app you can also reset or delete your advertising identifier in Android's settings.

6. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers needed to run planes.fun:

  • Google — for sign-in, as our analytics provider through Google Analytics, as our ad provider through AdSense, Ad Manager and AdMob (Section 5), and as our payment processor through Google Play (each subject to Google's own privacy policy).
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — who store our data and serve the site.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of planes.fun, our users, or the public. Flight data shown on the site comes from third-party sources (AeroDataBox, adsb.lol, FAA SWIM and NAS status, aviationweather.gov, D-ATIS, VRS standing data, tar1090-db) — we send them flight queries, not your personal information.

7. Data retention and account deletion

We keep your account and gameplay data for as long as your account exists — settlement and score history is part of the game's permanent record while you play. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and debugging. Google Analytics keeps event-level usage data for 14 months.

You can delete your account yourself at any time at planes.fun/account/delete (also available from the account menu in the app and on the site). Deletion is immediate: your callsign, display name, Google sign-in connection, crew photo, avatar, and fleet are removed, any unused token balance is forfeited, and your Google Analytics history is deleted automatically. Three things are retained: purchase records, for accounting and fraud-prevention reasons; your calls, settlements and token history, kept without your callsign, name or sign-in under an internal number that is never published, so settled games stay accurate; and a record that the deletion happened, which names the callsign it removed, for security.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your personal information.
  • Receive your information in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in Section 12. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information — encrypted connections (HTTPS), least-privilege access to our databases, and payment handling delegated entirely to Google Play. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we design the system so that the most sensitive data (passwords, card numbers) never touches our servers at all.

10. Children

planes.fun is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Its ads are not directed at children either. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice on the site. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
